So again it’s that time of the year when the gyms and training facilities get flooded with newbies trying to lose those holidays pounds. It’s probably been years since any of them have stepped in a gym and for most; the whole thing can be quite scary.
With all of the new people filling up the gyms, taking a little longer than they should and being a little disoriented. It can be easy to get frustrated. If you’re a regular, you probably have your own routine and try to waste as little time as possible in between exercises. Having to stop to wait on someone is probably not the most pleasant feeling.
This past couple days I’ve been able to feel the animosity that some of the regulars have towards the new gym goers. And I want to challenge you guys to catch yourself if you’re doing this and to think about it for a second.
At some point in your life you were that clueless newbie you’re now looking down on. You probably walked into the gym looking for a change, committed to achieving your goals but feeling out of place.
You were one of the few who stuck with your goals and kept up with the routine. Most people however, never make it that far.
What if… instead of judging we took the time to praise those who are making an effort and gave them the extra push to stay on track?
I saw a woman today at the gym. She must have been on her early 80’s.She approached me to tell me how she wished she could do half the things I was doing. She brought tears to my eyes because in my head I was thinking how amazing SHE WAS for being at the gym taking care of her body. She was pushing herself harder than some people who are half her age.
The thing is her comment gave me a rush of energy that’s hard to describe. It feels good to know that others notice your effort sometimes. Think about how little appreciation most of us get on a regular basis. Take the time to praise someone when you feel they deserve it. Spread the positive energy with others. You might be the extra push that person needed to stay on track and you’ll suddenly be able to see that goodness is everywhere. You just gotta take the time to find it.

You don’t know how lucky you are to have Dayhanna in Orlando!!!
Thank you so much Karin. I miss you!!
